Woooooo it’s Thursday! Which is actually almost over, so let’s just pretend it’s already Friday and the weekend is right upon the horizon. YAY!
In honor of being more than halfway through half marathon training, let’s do a little Throwback Thursday action to my first ever half marathon
It was a glorious day despite me wanting to slug my dad for talking on the phone during the middle of the race (he was trying to find out where my mom, brother and nephews would be along the course). I can’t believe this was a little over a year ago and now I’m training for my 8th half! Obsessive much?
I decided to do my long run (7 miles) tonight and I was lucky enough that my friend Emily wanted to run, as well! She was only able to do 4.5 because she’s a busy girl and had thangs to do, but thanks to some great conversation, those 4.5 were pretty wonderful.
But then I was alone…. my legs became tight, my burping was out of control and I wanted to quit.
But I didn’t.
I repeated a lot of mantras I’ve seen out in the blog world….most of them along the lines of “I can do hard things” “Hard runs make me stronger” “I am lion hear me roar” (I didn’t actually say the last one, but I should have)
I went into these 7 miles with little to no hesitation because I had such a great long run last week, so I was surprised at how hard the last 2.5 miles were tonight. But as my dad says, sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason to why a 10 mile run can feel great one day and a 6 mile run can feel like hell a few days later. It’s all just part of the game.
Although the cheese plate I ate at 3:45 pm might not have helped the burping situation
It’s going to be a brisk weekend with 63 degrees being the highest temp we’ll see. You are all free to feel bad for us San Diegans.
I think that was the first time I called myself a San Diegan, which means it’s probably time for me to update my “About” page….
And now I know what I’m doing with my Friday night :)
What’s the worst thing you’ve eaten right before a run?
What are some of the mantras you use?
What’s the weather like where you live?
